An ambitious project to organize immense amounts of research into one connected genealogical pedigree chart of New Mexico's Hispanic ancestry. It is the result of combining many different GEDCOM files (computer genealogy data format) as well as information from various published sources into one unified database.
Juan Montes Vigil, the husband of Catalina Herrera Cantillana, was a native of de la Feligresia de San Martino de Siero, (Spain) who came to New Spain as the criado of Don Jacinto de Olmos on 20 June 1611 [See AGI, Contratacion 5323, no. 29, Imagen 1-5 1611-located by Colligan while in Sevilla]. Juan Montes Vigil was described as tall and white. He was the nephew of Bartolome Vigil and the legitimate son of Juan Montes Vigil and Maria de Vigil. He was the grandson of Francisco de Vigil de San Martino and Catalina de Argulles.
On 10 February 1609 at the villa of Siero, Bartolome Vigil, regidor of the villa, as guardian for the person and bienes of Juan Montes Vigil, his nephew, resident and native of the district of San Martino de Siero and Bartolome being a resident in the royal court at Madrid, said that his minor charge wished to go to New Spain and other royal provinces where he would be a "hijo dalgo" as he was a direct and legitimate descendant of the manor-house of Vigil. one of the most ancient and note worthy of that Consejo (of de Siero)
